Annual Members Meeting 2020
Eugene Aikikai Annual Meeting Notes
November 14th, 2020
Eugene Aikikai has transitioned to a non-profit organization - info was sent out in newsletter in November.
Questions? Nope.
Suggestion from Edie: Post the board members on the bulletin board.
Sensei: Possibly also on the web site.
Elizabeth will create a page for that
If anyone is interested in joining the board, see President Jeff
Dojo will be closed for two weeks due to COVID-19 Restrictions
Zoom classes will take place three times a week
The initial two week freeze order will likely be extended because Lane County is a hotspot
Zoom link is connected through class schedule on web site
Classes will be footwork and conditioning because weapons often don’t fit indoors for most people.
Participation is highly encouraged
Very highly.
Participation is helping everyone, not just you.
Sensei himself will be doing zoom teaching, too.
Facebook fundraising
Still new, but it is working
Please share the Facebook posts with the donation link
Sharing our fundraising adds to organizational transparency & staying connected
Contact Chantel Saban if you have any suggestions for fundraising posts or other ideas
Are other dojos nonprofit in the area?
Ki society (their model is all dojos must be nonprofit - possibly all part of national)
Birankai has many non-profit dojos. Not in Oregon, though.
Sensei has shared our bylaws with a couple others who are interested in becoming nonprofit.
Chiba Sensei’s dojo was nonprofit
So is Berkeley Aikikai and Brooklyn Aikikai
Jeff suggests a protocol for people who want to use the dojo individually while it is closed
Can we create an online sign-up/calendar or something?
Who has access to the dojo and who will be responsible for opening it?
Sensei will be there every evening
Elizabeth will be running most of the zoom classes
People with keys can enter
It is possible to arrange a way for those without keys to still access, if someone can open it for them
In accordance with the Governors orders there can be no formal instruction or gathering of people from different households
Would need a protocol for sterilizing the mat and whatever else was touched when they are done
What’s coming up? More pandemic.
Schedule online is super up to date - so go to the web site, it’s actually accurate. (Thanks, Elizabeth!)
Elizabeth has found pictures of the board to post to the web site. Contact her if you prefer another one.
